Longevity, Passion, and Simplicity: A Conversation with Sam Crowley

In a recent Podcast Insider special edition, Blubrry CEO Todd Cochrane sat down with Sam Crowley, host of the long-running motivational podcast Every Day is Saturday. Crowley, known for his straightforward approach and infectious energy, shared insights on podcast longevity, affiliate success, and why simplicity is key for new and seasoned podcasters alike.

Crowley, who started recording audio back in 2005 — before podcasting was even mainstream — reflected on his path. “I didn’t even know I was recording podcasts,” Crowley joked. “I was just throwing audios out there in the latter part of ’04 and ’05. In 2007, I finally got my podcast feed and became a ‘real’ podcaster.”

Now with nearly 18 years under his belt, Crowley estimates he’s pushing 30 million downloads — many of which were recorded from his car in a Dunkin’ Donuts parking lot. “It ain’t the tech,” Crowley said. “If I can get 700,000 downloads a month podcasting from my car, it just goes to show — it’s about passion and consistency.”

Crowley’s minimalist approach emphasizes action over perfection. He records his episodes using a Shure MV88 mic plugged into his iPhone, then quickly edits in Audacity. “I don’t major in minor things,” he explained. “I just get the audio out there and let it go into the podcasting space.”

A Blubrry affiliate since 2014, Crowley spoke highly of the program, not just for its payouts but for the peace of mind it brings. “I didn’t know what I didn’t know back then,” he said. “But what blew me away was the support. When something went wrong, Mike Dell from Blubrry got on GoToWebinar with me — who does that anymore?”

That hands-on support is why Crowley confidently recommends Blubrry to thousands of podcasters he coaches. “It’s not just about making money,” he said. “It’s about knowing your client is secure. The worst thing you can do is recommend something that doesn’t work. With Blubrry, I never worry.”

Crowley also stressed the importance of brand control. “Build your brand on your .com, not someone else’s. With PowerPress and WordPress, everything I’ve ever recorded is searchable online. That’s huge.”

As for affiliate advice? Crowley kept it simple: “Be a user of the product so you can be a walking testimonial. When you do use Blubrry, you’ll find out real quick — it’s about as simple as it gets. Your feed is secure, your show is secure, and your support is there.”

Crowley’s message to new podcasters remains clear: focus on your voice, find your passion, and don’t overcomplicate things. “Everybody has a million-dollar message,” he said. “It could be teaching someone how to hang a door or telling a story from your life. Grab a mic, start talking, and inspire somebody.”
