Chris Bronson talks about Workamping at Oregon’s East Lake Resort in Episode 326
This week, we’re heading to the high country of central Oregon to learn about Workamping opportunities at East Lake Resort, which is located just east of La Pine, Ore.
Today I get to speak with Chris Bronson, who helps manage East Lake Resort alongside his wife and father. The resort is a family-owned seasonal destination nestled inside a volcanic caldera surrounded by national forest.
Chris describes what makes East Lake Resort a great place to live and work for a season. Those include paid positions, scenic beauty and a supportive, team-oriented environment.
Each summer, the resort hires 20 to 25 team members, and approximately 18 of those are typically Workampers. Chris hires housekeepers, office staff, store clerks, boathouse attendants and maintenance workers as well as cooks and servers for the resort’s restaurant.
Workampers typically put in 30 hours per week, but some jobs require full-time work.
Although the resort is staffed for 2025, Chris is always looking for Workampers in future seasons. Whether you’re a seasoned Workamper or considering your first job, you’ll want to hear what East Lake has to offer.
Chris explained East Lake Resort may be small in size, but it offers a wide range of seasonal Workamping opportunities in a beautiful and remote location.
All jobs are paid, starting at $16 to $18 per hour depending on responsibilities, with management roles paying more.
Workampers are expected to arrive 7 to 10 days before Memorial Day weekend, and the season typically runs through late September.
Chris prefers to hire more people than necessary to ensure no one is overworked and customer service doesn’t suffer. That also means Workampers get some breathing room if someone needs a day off or if plans unexpectedly change.
Chris welcomes solos, couples, and even families as well as teenagers who may want to work part-time.
Flexibility is key at the resort, and Chris appreciates team players who are friendly, reliable and adaptable enough to help out wherever needed.
While the resort doesn’t have cell service, it does offer reliable Starlink internet, making it possible to stay connected and even make calls online.
Workampers pay just $100 per month for their RV site, which includes full hookups. Perks also include free boat rentals and 25% off items in the store and restaurant.
Recruiting usually begins in late November and runs through March, but Chris noted that last-minute openings often pop up even into the spring.
For people interested in Workamping in the future, it’s a good idea to email Chris directly in the fall to express interest. Following up after a phone call and showing genuine enthusiasm can also go a long way in standing out from other applicants.
