In Episode 287, Michilah Grimes describes Lippert Components’ seRV With Purpose

July 16, 2024

Today I am speaking with a representative from RV supplier Lippert Components about opportunities for Workampers to make a difference wherever they travel by helping non-profit organizations.

Michilah Grimes is the director of corporate and community impact for Lippert Components. The company is well known for the plethora of products it makes for RVs. Today, the firm wants to give back in a big way.

The company started seRV With Purpose in the fall of 2022 to help civic-minded RVers give back to the communities which hosted them for a season. It’s an ideal program for Workampers who are often in the same area for extended periods of time.

Working with its brand ambassadors, Lippert reached out to non-profit groups across the county to supply volunteer labor for a variety of projects.

Volunteers engage in big projects, like building nature habitats, to smaller activities like making encouraging cards for service members and people in nursing homes. The group also organizes blood drives and opportunities to support local food banks.

The company’s brand ambassadors, who are often full-time RVers, reach out to local nonprofit organizations in communities they visit asking if there was a way RVers could help. It could be for 30 minutes to a few hours, or all day or multiple days. Each project is different.

Once an opportunity is identified, it is posted on the seRV With Purpose website indicating the date and time and any other requirements or special information RVers need to know.

There is often plenty of time for Workampers to coordinate travel and days off to be able to participate in the project. Projects that involve working around kids require participants to complete a background check, but most projects do not have that requirement.

So far this year, more than 1,000 volunteers have donated 2,300 hours of their time to assist with 45 events. More events are planned for the rest of the year. There is no cost to participate, and some events allow children and teenagers to serve with their parents.

Workampers who may not be able to participate in the on-site events, can still take part in monthly challenges, which are different every month. For example, in July, individual volunteers are challenged to collect donations for local thrift stores. In August, they are asked to volunteer at a local animal shelter.

For more information about the monthly challenges and seRV With Purpose volunteer events scheduled to take place around the country, visit www.servwithpurpose.com. There Workampers can find a map of planned events scheduled along with the dates and times.

Lippert Components also set up a special seRV With Purpose Facebook group to promote the opportunities.

This sounds like a great way for Workampers to connect with other RVers as well as local residents. Be sure to check out the website to see how and where you can help.
