42. Midlife Awakening: Rise From the Ashes

November 26, 2022

“Midlife is when the universe places her hands upon you shoulders, pulls you close, and whispers in your ear:  I’m not screwing around.  All of this pretending you’re performing, these coping mechanisms that you’ve developed to protect yourself from feeling inadequate and getting hurt has to go.  Your armor is preventing you from growing into your gifts.   I understand that you needed these protections when you were small. I understand that you believed your armor could help you secure all of the things you needed to feel worthy and lovable, but you’re still searching and you’re more lost than ever. Time is growing short. There are unexplored adventures ahead of you. You can’t live the rest of your life worried about what other people think. You were born worthy of love and belonging. Courage and daring are coursing through your veins. You were made to live and love with your whole heart. It’s time to show up and be seen.”

-Brene Brown

Today’s episode is all about the midlife crisis or what we like to call the midlife awakening.

In this episode we discuss:

•How the mid-life awakening can be a long process, a period of time that can last from 10 to 12 years.

•That universally everyone goes through this, and how it is an opportunity to let go of old stories, soften the ego, and let go of personas that have defined us up until this point in time.

•The freedom and authenticity that midlife can bring on the other side of the awakening.

•Kate and Betsy’s personal experiences in their own mid-life awakenings and how they are navigating the process.

•The acceptance that our choices at midlife do become more limited.  This is a time of discernment vs trying everything like we might have done earlier in life.

“Life really does begin at 40, up until then you’re just doing research.”

-Carl Jung
