Fear brings us closer to what we are afraid of. Ultimately fear brings us closer to death. Even though we are alive on the outside, fear and anxiety can cause us to shutdown emotionally, and be dead on the inside. Jesus calls us to live a new life.

Fear is Frantic. It is chaotic, wild, disorienting, distraught, hurried.. We are never at our best when we are under the control of fear. The simplest things become impossible when Fear is calling the shots. Fear seems unstoppable, all-powerful,

Fear shows up when it wants. Fear does what it wants. Imagine with me.. You are held up in a room. The house is secured. The doors and windows boarded up. Everyone has their weapons. People stationed strategically to secure the place.

Fear is conditional! That is good news.  Fear only works in the right conditions. Fear needs a dark and stormy night. Fear needs secluded woods. Fear needs a deserted house with lots of spider webs. Fear needs the right conditions.

Fear is behind you. Just like in those scary movies, the werewolf is behind you, the psycho killer is chasing after you, the alien blob is creeping up on you. Fear positions itself behind you. Fear always hangs out in the corners.

Help is a good thing!  In times of stress, frustration, and burden, it is so nice to hear someone offer their help. Everyone needs help at times… except God. God actually does not need your help.  God is self-existent and self-sufficient.
