Ways to Help Your Child Overcome Ridicule

September 16, 2021

Did you know Jesus was ridiculed?

There is a huge difference between being teased and being ridiculed, and both acts can affect us, as well as our children. Teasing is making fun of a person or a situation, and teasing is common among children, especially between siblings. Mocking someone or humiliating them with taunting words or insulting behavior is ridicule. Jesus is ridiculed many times throughout the bible as he is mocked, laughed at, made fun of, and eventually crucified.
Some of the reasons that children may tease or ridicule other children are to get attention, to feel superior, to look cool, to emulate a famous influencer, or simply because they feel intimidated. However, there are many ways to help a child who has been teased or ridiculed. Some ways to help a child that has been ridiculed are to relate to them, role-play the situation, be more familiar with the people they are hanging out with when you’re not around and read verses from the Bible about Jesus being ridiculed.
