Monday Morning Moments Podcast: The Path to Peace: Don’t Be Anxious!
Philippians 4:6-7 is a great verse and reminder that we should not be anxious about or fear anything or any situation but in everything and in every season and situation we should be bring our requests – our fear, anxiety, depression, and doubt to God – knowing that He will provide a peace that surpasses all of our human understanding in every moment.
This is another episode in our series entitled “The Path to Peace: 10 Bible Verses to Develop Faith Over Fear.” In this week’s Monday Morning Moments podcast episode, I share more about this verse and its relevance in our lives and our mental health.
Show Notes:
- Philippians 4:6-7 – “6 do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. 7 And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”
- This verse offers a command with instruction, and the promise is inherit in the verse. Inspired by the Holy Spirit, the apostle Paul wrote this letter a group of people in a church who were facing and dealing with anxiety, fear, and even persecution. He was echoing the words of Jesus who spoke several times about not being anxious. In fact, Paul was probably the first mental health coach as he often spoke about how to deal with fear and how to renew our mind to positive and productive thoughts. I have used many Bible verses that He wrote as the foundation for the keys to a championship mindset that I coach and teach the athletes that I get to work with.
- Paul follows up this verse with instruction on what we should focus on and where we should direct our attention to in order to not be fearful. He says in Philippians 4:8 – “Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.”(NIV)
- This verse provides a checklist to discern if we should entertain a certain thought, which ultimately leads to an action:
- Is it true?
- Is it noble?
- It is right or true?
- Is it pure?
- Is it lovely?
- Is it admirable?
- Is it excellent or praiseworthy?
