Putting Down Your Pom-Poms

October 07, 2021

When you’re on a plane, there's a reason why they say to put on your own oxygen mask first. Because we can’t help ourselves, never mind assisting anyone else, if we can’t breathe.

This analogy also translates perfectly into our everyday lives. If we’re constantly giving so much to others first, our life can get and feel way out of balance.

This can lead to us becoming sick, overwhelmed, resentful, or filled with a “secret” kind of rage that is just burning up inside. A rage that you probably won’t turn on other people because that's not what “nice people-pleasers” do, right? Ha!

Instead people often turn it on themselves and become martyrs, passive aggressive, or our body literally breaks down and we physically become ill. If we only ever cheerlead others and don’t stay in self-integrity with taking the time for ourselves, and keeping our word to ourselves, then we eventually pay the price one way or another.

Today on The Karen Kenney Show, we’re talking about finding the balance between being a “Balcony Person” and putting our pom-poms down once in a while long enough to save some energy to cheerlead ourselves.

The reality is we can’t give to others from an empty well. We can’t ignore the call of our own creative hearts. Don’t be afraid to take a step back and do the things you love most for yourself.

This doesn’t make you selfish, this makes you self-integral, it means you value yourself and have self-love and it creates the space, so you can once again pick up your pom-poms and cheer others on.
