#081: Cope with Small Talk When You Find it Hard [Podcast]
Small talk is a necessary evil. Most of us can’t do whatever it is we want to do in life without engaging in it from time to time.
In this week’s episode I talk about a few reasons I think introverted and highly sensitive people especially struggle with these kinds of social situations.
1. We Don’t Enjoy Talking About Ourselves and Easily Downplay our Own Interests/Lives
2. We Generally Like to Think Before We Respond or Offer an Opinion
3. You Can Get Us Talking About Our Passions and Interests, otherwise…
4. We Like to Listen More than We Like to Talk
If you recognise any of these in your own experience then you may well find this episode helpful. I suggest a few ways that we can change our attitudes in order to make those small talk situations just a little bit more comfortable.
I mentioned Leil Lowndes’ book, How to Talk to Anyone. You can get hold of it here.
