#080: 4 Reasons I Wanted to Launch a Membership Site [Podcast]
You may well be aware that I launched the new Membership Area of Sheep Dressed Like Wolves on the 1st June 2014. It has been equally exciting and terrifying, and is something I’ve wanted to do for just over a year.
In this week’s episode of the podcast I wanted to use the opportunity to be open and transparent about why I’ve gone down this road and what I hope will come from it over the coming months and years.
The Main Points from This Episode
1. Community Breeds Action
I am a member of a couple of other online communities. I noticed that when I feel immersed in the culture and a valued member of the community I am much more likely to take transformative action. I’m eager to learn from and be inspired by others and love reading success stories and feeling like I’m a part of a movement, all heading in the same direction.
2. Investment Begets Investment
In being a paid member I am investing in myself, in other people, and in the message or community that I belong to. The very act of investing something in the community gives me a desire to see good things come from it. And in order to help this along I am more willing to invest my time and effort into making the best of it.
3. Taking things to the next level
Without some kind of financial investment it becomes very difficult to grow and hone the delivery of a message. Even if that just pays for the time it takes to put it all together. Starting a paid Member’s Area is an investment in the delivery of my message.
I think it’s important because I think people are important and I believe that there are many people who need to know that they are introverts or HSPs, and that there is nothing weird about them. And if I’m serious about getting that message out I think it’s vital to find ways of investing in quality and developing the delivery in the future.
4. It’s safe
A membership area is a safe area, and only includes people who are on board with the values and guidelines of the community. Providing a private member’s forum means that we can discuss things without worrying that just anyone can click through and see it. And we can use the exclusive nature of the private area to build each other up and help empower one another.
In this week’s show I unpack these ideas some more, and provide an honest and transparent insight into why this new community area is so important to me.
