#071: 5 Things That Help Me Juggle My Hats as an Art(re)Preneur [Podcast]
I recently heard an interesting interview about solo-preneurship and self-employment. The ideas discussed have niggled me for weeks; however now I can’t remember where I heard the interview or who was involved (if these ideas ring any bells and you know what interview I might have listen to then please let me know!)
The interviewee presented the notion of the many hats you have to wear if you are going to make a sustainable living building your art as a small independent business.
CEO and Worker Bee
A few days ago I spent about three hours handwriting notes to everyone who had pre-ordered my new album. I then packaged up the albums, bought stamps, and spent about 10 minutes stuffing them into a post box.
I then setup the Event page for the launch show, before considering the way I could use my social media in conjunction with the album release. I made a plan.
There is a challenge when you’re self-employed, or trying to start a small business on your own; you have to wear a lot of hats. At the most basic level you have to be the vision guy, and you have to be the worker bee doing the gritty basic work.
Create a more sustainable, relationship based business around your art.
In this week’s show I talk through 5 helpful things that I’ve started doing in order to separate the CEO from the worker bee in my head. I’ve already seen and felt the benefits of being clear on the boundaries between the time to step back, and the time to work.
