#151: Your Voice Will Shake, But Please Speak Up Anyway [Podcast]
Have you ever started speaking when you were scared and found the voice that came out doesn't sound anything like you. It is shaky, faster, and desperate sounding, not to mention the breathing which is all over the place. Don't worry this is normal. It is something everyone experiences.
I once did a speech and made the mistake of writing my notes on a piece of paper. As soon as I started speaking I noticed my hands were shaking and I couldn't see the notes because the paper was moving so much. The spiral of embrassment took over. I tried to stop shaking so I shook more. I tried to breathe normally and ended up gasping for air. But I carried on anyway.
We live in a time when our default response to discomfort and pain is to medicate the symptoms. We use painkillers to numb the pain. If we're not careful this way of thinking seaps into many areas of our lives, and can easily stop us from speaking up when we feel that inner niggle that wants us to say or do something that requires courage on our part.
When you experience a shaky voice it isn't a sign that you're weak, unable, or ill-equipped to speak up. It's a sign that you're human. It is SO important that as an introvert and/or highly sensitive person you accept permission to speak up when you feel that niggle within.
Why is it so important? Because...
1. You See Things Differently
2. People Want to Hear From You
3. You are Not a Seriel Trouble Maker
4. Your Emotion Can Soften Hearts
5. You Will Grow in Confidence
6. Change Happens With Courageous Acts
7. Remain Quiet to Start a Game of Whack-A-Mole
8. Good Leaders Appreciate Support
I expand on each of these reasons in this episode of the podcast.
