You Can Shine

You Can Shine

Episode 17 – Beating cancer and becoming a ‘Possibilitarian’ with Peter Gooley

October 19, 2021

Born in 1956 and awarded Northern Rivers Star baby of the year in 1957, a rebellious teen and former rescue officer for Blue Mountains SES, Peter Gooley’s life was sent into chaos in 1993 by a cancer diagnosis.
In this episode we explore how he dealt with the grip of uncertainty, worry about children’s futures, mortgage and what the future would hold.
Peter cared for his mother in her later stages of life battling multiple myeloma cancer, and talks of the fateful day being appointed Activities Director in a nursing home which changed the course of his life.
Peter is dedicated to dementia support and to educating community to take ownership of their health and become more willing to increase their health literacy. He believes the more of a collaborative partnership there is between everyone around that table of care, the better the outcomes, the less impact on the health system and the opportunity for a healthier society overall.
Peter draws much inspiration from some wise words by Norman Vincent Peale to become a Possibilitarian. No matter how dark things seem to be or actually are, raise your sights and see the possibilities — always see them, for they’re always there.
Tune in, open your mind and heart, and be inspired.
