Los Angeles Bans Gas in New Buildings
- L New buildings in Los Angeles will be required to be all-electric under a policy approved by the city council Dec. 7 as part of a movement to reduce carbon emissions in the city.
- The requirement applies to buildings approved after April 1, and affordable housing projects approved after June 1 of next year. Accessory dwelling units and cooking equipment for restaurants are exempt.
- “If we do this requirement but don’t have the capacity, that means we will electrify through the generation of dirty energy,” O’Farrell said.

Bottom line: the state of the US consumer is dire and getting worse, and as shown in the next chart, credit card debt hits a record high just as the personal savings rate hit a 17 year low. The catastrophic implications for the US economy is clear.

China Confirms It Is “Mystery” Massive Gold Buyer With First Official Purchase In 3 Years
- Central banks bought a net 399.3 tonnes of gold in the July-September period, more than quadrupling on the year, according to the November report by the World Gold Council. The latest amount marks a steep jump from 186 tonnes in the preceding quarter and 87.7 tonnes in the first quarter, while the year-to-date total alone surpasses any full year since 1967.
- Buyers such as the central banks of Turkey, Uzbekistan and India reported purchases of 31.2 tonnes, 26.1 tonnes and 17.5 tonnes, respectively. The problem, as we calculated at the start of November, is that those amounts only add up to roughly 90 tonnes – “meaning it is unclear who bought the remaining roughly 300 tonnes net.”
- And while we clearly had one name as the most likely suspect behind the residual buying, it wasn’t until a report two weeks later by Japan’s Nikkei that said name emerged front and center.
- According to the Nikkei, which paraphrased verbatim what we had previously said, with central banks snapping up gold this year amid uncertainty which ones are behind most of that shopping spree, “speculation emerged that China is a big player.” And citing analysts, the Nikkei then goes on to suggest that seeing how Russia has been hit by monetary sanctions by the West, “China and some other countries must be hurrying to reduce dependence on the dollar.”

Mullah Norullah Nori is a senior Taliban commander who is also wanted by the UN for war crimes, and also took part in the suspected mass killing campaign against Shiites.
Khairullah Khairkhwa, a Taliban commander, has ties to the Ayatollah’s regime in Tehran. He was reportedly trusted by Taliban chief Mullah Omar to negotiate ties with Iran.

Canada set to waste $1 billion worth of COVID-19 vaccines
- Canada is set to dispose of $1 billion worth of COVID vaccines before the end of the year, on top of tens of millions of other doses that have already expired, according to the auditor general.
- In her report Hogan found that there are tens of millions of doses in provincial and federal warehouses.
- “At the end of May 2022, there were 32.5 million doses in inventory, and using unclassified and public documentation, we estimated those doses to be worth about $1 billion,” reads Hogan’s report.
- Hogan found that out of 169 million doses the government received, 84.1 million had been given to Canadians, with a further 32.5 million in storage as of May. Health Minister Jean-Yves Duclos said Tuesday that 10.8 million of those doses have since expired.
