Senator Josh Hawley (R-MO) sponsored and pushed forward the PELOSI Act (Preventing Elected Leaders from Owning Securities and Investments Act), a bill aimed at banning members of Congress, the president, vice president, and their spouses from trading or holding individual stocks while in office. On July 30, 2025, Hawley was the only Republican to vote with Democrats on the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee to advance this legislation out of committee, passing it by a 8-4 vote. During the committee process, Hawley joined Democrats in blocking an amendment proposed by Senator Rick Scott (R-FL), which would have required a review or investigation into Nancy Pelosi’s stock trading activities over the past 25 years.
This amendment had support from nearly all other Republicans but was defeated, reportedly after information about it was released shortly before the vote.
Hawley later stated that he had a conversation with President Trump, who reiterated support for banning stock trading by figures like Pelosi, though Trump publicly criticized Hawley for blocking the review. Pelosi herself expressed support for Hawley’s bill.

would not have committed to a move of this magnitude unless he already had victory securely in hand. Trump would not have instructed Tulsi to begin this rollout if they did not know the outcome. They are not just finding this information. Trump knew the entire time. This is just the public rollout phase.
