Volvo gives up plan to sell only EVs by 2030
- Car company Volvo has abandoned its target to produce only fully electric cars by 2030, saying it now expects to be selling some hybrid vehicles by that date.
- The carmaker blamed changing market conditions for its decision to give up a target it had announced only three years ago.
- It comes as the industry faces a slowdown in demand in some major markets for electric vehicles (EVs) and uncertainty due to the imposition of trade tariffs on EVs made in China.
- Volvo, which has traditionally flaunted its environmental credentials, joins other major carmakers General Motors and Ford in rowing back on EV ambitions.
- Volvo now expects at least 90% of its output to be made up of both electric cars and plug-in hybrids by 2030.

- Against expectations of adding 145k jobs (a slight improvement over July’s 122k), ADP’s Employment report printed a dismal +99k for August – the weakest print since January 2021 (and July’s +122k was revised down to +111k)…

Attorneys’ letters warned Colorado officials of Venezuelan gang control at Aurora apartments

- Letters obtained by The Denver Gazette from the law firm representing CBZ Management — whose apartment complex in Aurora was shut down over what the city described as safety issues last month — show officials were fully aware weeks ago of accusations that a Venezuelan gang had “forcibly taken control” of the property.
- In an Aug. 28 letter to Colorado Attorney General Phil Weiser, the law firm wrote that CBZ Management had been informed that “Aurora Multi-Family Projects have been forcibly taken control of by gang(s) that have immigrated here from Venezuela.”
- Aurora officials initially dismissed the company’s claims publicly, calling them “diversionary tactics” and “alternative narratives.” The issue, the city insisted, was the numerous violations of the local government’s code.
- Officials have since walked back those claims back.

- The FBI has confirmed that the 14-year-old Apalachee High School shooter, Colt Gray, a student at the Georgia school, was known to the agency as early as May 2023 after receiving “several anonymous tips about online threats to commit a school shooting at an unidentified location and time.”
- This comes after we learned that an unidentified individual also warned the high school via phone that it would be the first of five schools targeted with violence prior to the shooting on Wednesday.

FBI Atlanta responded earlier today to Apalachee High School following reports of an active shooter. Throughout the day FBI personnel have been coordinating with and supporting local and state law enforcement. - The Discord account had a user name written in Russian, and the translation of the letters spelled out the name Lanza, referencing Adam Lanza, the perpetrator of the Sandy Hook Elementary school tragedy, officers said.
- Gray denied he was the author of the threats, telling police he’d shut down his Discord after being repeatedly hacked. He expressed concerns that someone would make those accusations about him.
- Gray’s family has been tight-lipped when confronted by reporters.
- Online, his aunt vowed ‘full throttle blood’ as she claimed he’d been subjected to ‘abuse’ his entire life. Those comments were deleted last night after a barrage of backlash. It is unclear how the 14-year-old got ahold of the weapon that was used in the attack, and authorities have not yet said what kind of firearm was used.
