Brazil – Resilience of the Trans Community
Brazil was once one of the most progressive countries for LGBTIQ rights in South America. But now it has the horrific title of the most dangerous nation in the world for Trans people. This year alone, more than 129 Trans people have been murdered.
To find out what changed, we spoke with Lua Da Mota Stabile – Director of Institutional and International Relations of the Libertarian Union of Travesti and Trans Women. Lua is a Brazilian trans feminist and activist who identifies as “Travesti” and transgender woman. She has been working and fighting for the human rights of LGBTI people since 2014. Her focus is on promoting and protecting the human rights of trans and gender-diverse people. Lua is also a consultant for the UN “Free and Equal” campaign.
