In early adulthood, small town girl Zib Hinz changed her mind about living life by the script. She set out to direct her own path, guided by curiosity and opportunity. In the late 1960s and early 70s, Zib traveled across Europe, the Middle East, and hiked above the Arctic Circle. She played vigorously: long distance running, hiking, biking, skiing, and sailing a double ended ketch with her husband.  When Zib gave birth to her only child at age 42, she needed to move her professional career into a steady mode.  She found much fulfillment in urban planning and policy work focused on aiding children, families, and communities.

At age 65, Zib took up rowing and learned to play the cello--“music is physical” she says. Now at age 75, Zib continues to be physically active, plays in a cello quartet, has a new life partner, and continues to “keep moving and progressing through life with as much grace as possible.”
