Women Over 70: Aging Reimagined

016 Carol Brusslan: Integrating Commitment to Family, Career and Community

September 24, 2019

In this episode, Catherine, Gail and Carol discuss key aspects of staying active and living well. During her illustrative career in journalism, Carol covered beats from paper mills to the Equal Rights Amendment/National Organization of Women. Her work with the Ounce of Prevention Fund led to earning a master’s degree in Early Childhood Education so she could do the work and not just write about it. Carol is a long-time advocate for the rights and well-being of mothers and children, including licensed home child care workers.  Carol is Executive Director of The Trillium Foundation (which her husband founded) which connects school children with Chicago’s gems—e.g., Botanic Gardens, Ravinia-- to encourage interest in science and music. As a resident of The Mather, a senior center in Evanston, Carol walks every day to Lake Michigan to enjoy the diversity of language, color, ethnicity. She delights in various offerings of her alma mater, Northwestern University. Carol’s high-level energy and spirit shine in every word she speaks.

The secret of aging well is to have your mind on something or someone other than yourself.
