Designed by: Mike HortonPublished by: Breaking Games (2019)Players: 4 – 10Ages: 13 & upPlaying time: 15 min In We’re Doomed!, players are the most powerful leaders in the world working collectively to build a starship to escape our dying planet. But the twist is that players are not guaranteed a seat on the starship. The goal is to build the ship AND grab one of the precious seats. Play starts by initiating the 15 minute sand timer. Each round, a player performs one of the following actions: * Produce to gather resource tokens (these build the ship – the bigger the ship, the more seats become available)* Indoctrinate to gather influence tokens (influence tokens are used to secure a seat once the ship is ready)* Propagandize to steal influence from another player* Invade to steal resources from another player* Nuke to eliminate another player After each player has taken a turn, players then can contribute resources to the project. The player contributing the most takes the 1st player marker, they get a resource, and they draw an Event Card. Event cards can introduce new restrictions, set secret missions, bring up ethical dilemmas, or physical challenges. Some event cards are public, and some are clandestine. After 15 minutes, play stops. The players with the most Influence board the ship first. Once full, the ship launches and rockets away, while all others are left to cry out … We’re Doomed! Dune: Imperium Designed by: Paul DennenPublished by: Dire Wolf (2020)Players: 1 – 4Ages: 14 & upPlaying time: 60 – 120 min Dune: Imperium is a worker placement, resource management, and deck building game, based on elements and characters from Frank Herbert’s world of Dune. Each player is a leader of one of the Great Houses of the Landsraad fighting for the resources of the desert planet of Arrakis, and at the same time, engaging in diplomatic measures to bring victory to your faction. As you acquire cards and build your deck, your choices will define your strengths and weaknesses. Cards allow you to send your workers (called Agents) to certain spaces on the game board, so how your deck evolves affects your strategy. You might become more powerful militarily, able to deploy more troops than your opponents. Or you might acquire cards that give you an edge with the four political factions represented in the game: the Emperor, the Spacing Guild, the Bene Gesserit, and the Fremen. Draw a hand of 5 cards at the start of every round and alternate with other players, taking one Agent turn at a time (playing one card to send one of your Agents to the game board). When it’s your turn and you have no more Agents to place, you’ll take a Reveal turn, revealing the rest of your cards, which will provide Persuasion points and swords for the combat round. Persuasion is used to acquire more cards, and Swords help your troops fight for the current round’s rewards as shown on the revealed Conflict card.
