Amanda McGrory Shares How She Went From Waking up Without the Use of Her Legs to the Paralympic Games
For Amanda McGrory, waking up at the age of five without the ability to use her legs wasn't the great tragedy of her life. What defined a low period in her early life was feeling lost as she sought a role model with a disability.
Amanda finally saw others with disabilities living full, active lives when she found a camp for children with disabilities like her. She described this experience to me as a breakthrough, the moment when she was able to see that her life as an active kid wasn't over. As she played among other kids like her, she was able to visualize a future.
Listen to her talk about her achievements, including winning medals at the Beijing and Rio Paralympic games and how she serves as a mentor and role model to young athletes with disabilities today.
