In Colossians 2:16-23, Paul sets faith in Christ in opposition to that set of religious disciplines. Paul argues that faith in Christ is fundamentally incompatible with the rituals for two reasons:
1) religions rituals hold out the promise of being the way to please God but in fact they are not; and 2) Christ is the real solution to the problem of guilt and sin.
