Eternity Awaits – S2E17

September 01, 2020

Have you ever thought about where you will spend eternity? Of course, there are those who do not believe there is life after death. They deny the concept of one going to either heaven or hell at the moment of death. And you know what—that’s their right to do so. But to those of you who are the least bit curious, this podcast episode is for you because—eternity awaits.

Eternal life

Generally speaking, there are three main religions that believe in eternal life. And those religions are Christianity, Judaism, and Islam. When looking at it from a Christian perspective, the Holy Bible is very clear about eternal life. John 17:3 Modern English Version says, "This is eternal life: that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom You have sent."

And John 3:16 Modern English Version says, “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish, but have eternal life.”

The rich man and the poor man

Again, as mentioned earlier, there are those who do not believe in the existence of heaven and hell. Well, the Bible is also clear about that. And it paints a vivid picture through the following scriptural text. Luke 16:19-31 English Standard Version, 19 “There was a rich man who was clothed in purple and fine linen and who feasted sumptuously every day.

20 And at his gate was laid a poor man named Lazarus, covered with sores, 21 who desired to be fed with what fell from the rich man's table. Moreover, even the dogs came and licked his sores.

22 The poor man died and was carried by the angels to Abraham's side. The rich man also died and was buried, 23 and in Hades, being in torment, he lifted up his eyes and saw Abraham far off and Lazarus at his side.

24 And he called out, ‘Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus to dip the end of his finger in water and cool my tongue, for I am in anguish in this flame.’ 25 But Abraham said, ‘Child, remember that you in your lifetime received your good things, and Lazarus in like manner bad things; but now he is comforted here, and you are in anguish.

26 And besides all this, between us and you a great chasm has been fixed, in order that those who would pass from here to you may not be able, and none may cross from there to us.’ 27 And he said, ‘Then I beg you, father, to send him to my father's house— 28 for I have five brothers—so that he may warn them, lest they also come into this place of torment.’

29 But Abraham said, ‘They have Moses and the Prophets; let them hear them.’ 30 And he said, ‘No, father Abraham, but if someone goes to them from the dead, they will repent.’ 31 He said to him, ‘If they do not hear Moses and the Prophets, neither will they be convinced if someone should rise from the dead.’”

So, believe it or not, eternity does await. That is why it is important to choose in life where one spends eternity.

Eternal life through Christ Jesus

1 Corinthians 15:45 English Standard Version says,

“Thus it is written, “The first man Adam became a living being”; the last Adam became a life-giving spirit.” In other words, God Himself created Adam from the dust of the earth and breathed life into him (Genesis 2:7 New Internatinal Version).

Now, Jesus is the Son of God but He was also God in the flesh (John 1:14 The Passion Translation). And unlike the first Adam, when one truly believes in Jesus [the last Adam] he or she will receive eternal life. John 20:31 The Passion Translation says,
