161 Solo Episode | Moving to a Small Town & Impacts On My Business

March 28, 2021

Today, I’m taking the mic for a Solo Episode.

It’s been a while since I recorded a solo episode, for you.

We’ve just had such incredible guests throughout Season 7 that I didn’t feel worthy of hogging the mic (lol!). Hopefully you had a chance to tune into some of the past episode we did, chatting with…

All of the Season 7 Episodes can be found here >>

In today’s episode of the podcast, I want to share a Personal Update on all things Visionary! I know that many of you have enjoyed these in the past. Where I just talk, raw and real, and let you know what’s happening.

These are episodes I love listening to when I tune into other peoples podcasts, so let’s try it out!

I’ll dive into...

  • What it's been like moving from Toronto (population 3 million) to Paris, Ontario (population 15,000)
  • How my business has been impacted by this move
  • Initial reflections on how I've changed as a person, since moving here

Before I get into it, I want to share a few WINS (aka Celebrations from Visionary HQ!)

This is something we do each week inside of The Visionary Method (whether it’s “I just started a Instagram Account” or “I signed my first client at my new pricing!” we are always looking for ways to celebrate the Visionary Community.

Onto the Weekly Wins!…

  • We welcomed in 6 new visionaries in Visionary Coaching Experiences in the past 6 weeks. Life coach, financial experts, Nutritionists, bake shop owner, mountain bike experiences owner…
  • Google rankings are crushing it (SEO is working in my favour BIG TIME!!!). I’ll be breaking this down on an April Visionary Method Coaching Call
  • Landed 3 podcast sponsors for the Visionary Life Podcast, all of whom I adore and use frequently.
  • My assistant Alex is now the TVM program manager and she runs much of the ship

There have always been challenges, among these wins…

  • I need to get better at delegating. There’s a lot on my plate that I no longer need to be doing!
  • Another thing I want to create space and time for is holding the vision of Visionary Inc, while showing up in the present for my clients. Making time to dream and explore what’s possible is something that easily falls away when time is tight.

How about you?

What are your wins?

What’s challenging?

Anything I can help you with?

Let’s get into the episode - a recap on the past 6 months…

Topic # 1

What it's been like moving from Toronto (population 3 million) to Paris, Ontario (population 15,000)?

  • My nervous system is calming down and unlearning the hustle and pressure I put on myself in Toronto
  • I think I could be happy anywhere, so it’s been wonderful
  • Things I’ve enjoyed include: meeting new people, finding new ways to adventure (canoe, paddle board, night hikes, cycling routes, gravel rides)
  • Of course, there is so much I miss from Toronto including: my VISIONARY HQ (office), meeting people at the Drake for beers, the endless amount of good food, the walking and running routes, my cycling crew BOW+, the beach volleyball

Topic # 2

How my business has been impacted by this move?

  • I had a lot of hesitation around the limiting belief of “would I be able to run a business if I wasn’t in Toronto?”
  • However, I have proved myself wrong! We are growing month over month
  • In fact, March 2021 is our biggest month ever. In just 3 months I’ve surpassed the salary that I was once paid at a corporate job which blows my mind. It reminds me that there is NO limit when you own a business. The limit is your belief system
  • I’m still networking, but now it’s online! I’ve been meeting the most awesome people regardless of whether I am in Paris or Toronto

Topic # 3

Initial reflections on how I've changed as a person, since moving here

  • I haven’t! A move doesn’t change you…
  • Same as when you travel (wherever you go, there you are)
  • Dave and I always said in the house hunting journey, moving isn’t going to make us magically happier so just focus on being happy now.
  • Houses, cars, fancy things… they bring you a quick dopamine hit and then what? You’re still left with the same life all around you
  • I’ve found so much joy in simplicity here. Friday night fires, walking to our friends houses because everyone lives within 5 minutes, staring at the water
