The BEGINNING 1945: Voice from an Urn: Podcast 5: Chapter 3
The beginning of my mother's life with my father was in and around 1945.  In Chapter 3 of Podcast 5, my mother takes over the narration of "Voice from an Urn".  The voices we "hear" are those of my very pregnant mother and my father. They are newlyweds and we join them in the intimacy of the bedroom. Things are going badly for my mother. She is very nauseated and my father's cigarette breath is making her want to vomit while he is attempting to make love. As she rushes off the bed to run for the bathroom, his angry voice follows her. Later, when everything's calmed down again, she shares her shame in becoming pregnant before marriage, her rejection by, and the disdain of the other women in the labour camp barracks, and questions why on earth she married my father at all. Does she love him? She isn't sure. But then, she reasons: what other man would want her when she is "soiled goods".

If you'd prefer to read the book, it is available from the author's website at http://www.vigaboland.com  as both a personally signed softcover book or in digital format for all eBook readers. "Voice from an Urn" is the third part of a trilogy that began with the author's memoir of incest, "No Tears for my Father". That first book was awarded a gold medal in the 2014 Readers Favorite Awards. This book was followed by "Learning to Love Myself", the author's memoir of recovery and self-discovery after abuse. "Voice from an Urn" was written in response to readers' curiosity about a mother who seemingly did nothing to help her daughter when she was being sexually abused by her father.
