Episode 142 — Journey into Mystery: Fear Itself

November 02, 2015

This week on View from the Gutters our topic work is Journey into Mystery: Fear Itself, Vol. 1 & 2, by Kieron Gillen, Dougie Braithwaite, and other illustrators. Following the events in Marvel's Siege event, Loki the trickster god is dead! Long live Loki the trickster god!

Loki, having been reborn as a brand new person who is also a young boy, is greatly distrusted by all in Asgard except for his brother, Thor. However, Loki is given the opportunity to prove himself to valuable to the Aesir when Odin's evil brother Cul, known as The Serpent, escapes from his prison deep beneath the sea and attacks the Earth.

Can Loki lie enough to save Asgard? Can he trick the devil himself, Mephisto, into helping him do it? And can he convince the Aesir (and himself) that he isn't the same old Loki? This is the beginning of a great arc that redefines Loki.

In our recommendation section our hosts nominated Wonton Soup, The Nao of Brown, Bitch Planet, Black Canary and Zatanna: Bloodspell, and Suiciders for discussion on our next episode, and our selected title is Black Canary and Zatanna: Bloodspell.

Our hosts for this episode are Andrew Chard, Tobiah Panshin, Kayleigh Fleeman, and Kit Deforge.
