This week on View from the Gutters our topic work is The Unbeatable Squirrel Girl, by Ryan North (of the long running Dinosaur Comics webcomic) and Erica Henderson. First appearing in the early 90s, Doreen Green—teen superhero extraordinaire—is the unbeatable Squirrel Girl with the proportionate strength and speed of a squirrel. Also she can talk to squirrels and has awesome adventures.

After many years of thrilling exploits in the pages of other books and facing down villains like Doctor Doom and Thanos, Doreen finally has her own comic. This series is fun and light-hearted, and is suitable for readers of all ages. It features Doreen beginning college at Empire State University, learning to balance a secret identity (poorly) with being a teen-superhero (well).
