Episode 97 — Strong Female Protagonist

December 17, 2014

This week on View from the Gutters our topic work is Strong Female Protagonist, by Brennen Lee Mulligan and Molly Ostertag. SFP follows the life of retired teen-superhero and now college student Allison Green. As Mega Girl, Allison was one of the first and most powerful superheroes in the world. After years of battling villains, she determined that she wasn’t really making a difference, and so retired in order to figure out how someone with superpowers could truly make the world a better place.

SFP is both a deep character study and an exploration of both the strengths and limitations of superheroes and superpowers, absent the genre protection typically found in supers comics. You can read it for free at strongfemaleprotagonist.com.

Our listener survey is still going on, so if you have not already filled it out you can do so right now and receive a small thank you from View from the Gutters.

In our recommendation section, our hosts nominated Cerebus, Fray, Moon Knight, and Shutter for discussion on the next episode, and our selected title is Shutter, Vol. 1.

Our hosts for this episode are Andrew Chard, Tobiah Panshin, Joe Preti, and Cade Reynolds.
