The Vermont Conversation with David Goodman
Kiah Morris on Biden's racial justice goals
President-Elect Joe Biden declared in his acceptance speech that racial justice would be a key focus of his administration. What is the state of racial justice now and what should racial justice work focus on? How pervasive is white supremacy, and what should be done about armed groups such as Slate Ridge in Vermont? To talk about this, we turn to Kiah Morris, who served as a Vermont State Representative from Bennington from 2014-2018. She was the second African-American woman to be elected to the legislature in Vermont history. She resigned in 2018 following racist harassment from a self-avowed white nationalist in Bennington. Kiah Morris is now Movement Politics Director in Vermont for the social justice advocacy organization Rights & Democracy.
