Freely Forgiven, Freely Forgive

November 24, 2024

Pastor Jon Verwey

Loving our friends deeply means forgiving them freely—just as Jesus forgives us.

25 And when you stand praying, if you hold anything against anyone, forgive them, so that your Father in heaven may forgive you your sins. — Mark 11:25 (NIV)

3 So watch yourselves. “If your brother or sister sins against you, rebuke them; and if they repent, forgive them. 4 Even if they sin against you seven times in a day and seven times come back to you saying ‘I repent,’ you must forgive them.” 5 The apostles said to the Lord, “Increase our faith!” — Luke 17:3–5 (NIV)

In Mark, Jesus tells us, “if you hold anything against anyone, forgive them” (Mark 11:25 NIV), and in Luke, He says, “you must forgive them” (Luke 17:4 NIV).

“Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you” — Ephesians 4:32 NIV

Loving our friends deeply means forgiving them freely—just as Jesus forgives us.

Give your pain to Jesus.

Forgive by faith, not feelings.

Pray for your friend.

Move toward reconciliation, if possible.

Walk the path of forgiveness.
