World War I Veteran Interview
August 27, 1988 - Paul H. Jarrett
In a 1988 interview, Paul H. Jarrett spoke about his time in France during WWI, as a Second Lieutenant. Jarrett served in the famed 42nd Infantry (Rainbow) Division, made up of National Guard companies from 26 states. He earned a Purple Heart battling the Germans in the trenches of Neuviller les Badonviller in 1918. In 1996, Jarret was honored with France’s highest decoration, the French Legion of Honor. After the war, Jarrett moved to California, where he served as city clerk in Culver City and later as the city’s postmaster for 20 years. After he retired, he worked as a prop man for MGM studios in Culver City. Jarret passed in 1998, at the age of 102.
