The Girls Who Stepped Out of Line: Women’s History Month Lecture
March 10, 2021 – MG Mari Eder (Ret.)
In celebration of Women’s History Month, the USAHEC welcomed Retired U.S. Army Major General Mari Eder to give a lecture on her soon-to-be-published book, The Girls Who Stepped Out of Line: The Untold Stories of the Women Who Changed the Course of World War II. In her upcoming book, Eder takes you inside the lives and experiences of the unknown heroes from the Greatest Generation. These women served, fought, struggled, and made things happen during WWII―in and out of uniform, creating a legacy destined to encourage generations of women to come. In her lecture, she provided a compelling glimpse into the foundations of her book, including what inspired her to tell these women’s stories. Following the lecture, a panel including Carlisle Barracks Garrison Commander LTC Courtney Short, the U.S. Army War College (AWC)’s Associate Dean for Academic Programs, School of Strategic Landpower, Ms. Julie Manta, and the 2021 AWC Class President COL Shari Bennett provided their own unique perspectives, as well as further discussion of women as leaders and advocates for change in the U.S. military.
