Billy the kid was one of the most notorious outlaws in the 1800s and his story has been sensationalized and blown out of proportion so I am going to attempt to tell you the story as close to the truth as I can determine. This version of Billy the Kid isn’t as sexy as many listeners are used to so I apologize for that in advance. But like I said his story has been sensationalized and a certain mythos has been created around his life. Henry McCarty was born on November 23rd (according to some) 1859 in New York City, New York. He was raised in poverty in New York with his mom and father. It is believed that he took the now famous alias of William H. Bonney by using the name of his mom’s boyfriend and her maiden name.
