Episode 43 Trends for the Weeks of July 13-25 Tablets in the Classroom, VR & Mixed Reality, and Social Media for Teaching and Learning

July 27, 2015

We discuss the trends and issues we observed during the weeks of July 13-25, 2015 as we flipped resources into our Flipboard magazine (http://bit.ly/trendsandissues). In this episode of our podcast, we discuss 3 trends. The first trend is tablets. We observed several resources about reviews of tablets and rumors of new tablets that should hit the market in the coming weeks. We also observed a few resources on the use of tablets for teaching and learning--specifically related to how students and teachers can use tablets to create media for classroom use. The second trend is a recurring one: AR and mixed reality. AR continues to develop with a number of devices available and predictions of new devices in development. The third trend, more of a "trendlet," is the use of social media and consumer technologies for teaching and learning. We are reminded that these tools are not designed for education in mind. As such, we need to continue to be thoughtful for how we adapt them for teaching and learning.

We have three recommended readings for the week.
