Episode 021: Introducing Crossing Intents - a look at global market structure trends with a Canadian lens

February 06, 2023

This week, we kick off a sub-series of TMX Presents: The Podcast with Crossing Intents, which will delve deep into global market structure trends and events with a Canadian lens. Our co-hosts are TSX’s Doug Clark, Managing Director, Market Structure and Equity Product Design and a veteran of the Canadian capital markets, and Corey Garriott, Head of Product Research at the Montreal Exchange and former researcher at the Bank of Canada. They’ll occasionally have industry experts join them as they explore market structure topics that resonate with a broader audience.

In this episode, Doug and Corey examine the SEC’s proposals (all 1,600 pages) around retail trading within the equity markets and why this matters to Canadians. They discuss the proposed US legislation, specifically around tick size change, auctions and best execution, and ponder what Chairman Gensler is trying to solve.
