Ep. 71: Joseph Duarte talks UH head coach search; SI’s Sportsman of the Year, LeBron; too many bowls

December 04, 2016

Houston Chronicle University of Houston beat writer and friend of the show, Joseph Duarte, calls in to discuss the Cougars’ head coaching search, spearheaded by athletic director Hunter Yurachek and Billion Dollar Buyer, Tilman Fertitta. By all accounts, Tom Herman was headed to Austin as soon as the Big 12 elected not to expand, so now names like Les Miles, Major Applewhite and Lincoln Riley are getting thrown around, and whoever takes over has a tall task ahead of them, keeping UH on the trajectory Herman set. Duarte discusses the effect Herman’s departure - and imminent poaching - will have on current Houston recruits and breaks down who is most likely to be announced as the head coach this week. The guys also break down the bowl season (THERE’S TOO MANY OF THEM) and discuss LeBron James’ selection as Sports Illustrated’s Sportsman of the Year.
