Evansville Names New SPHL Team

April 16, 2016

EVANSVILLE, IN – Michael Hall announced on Friday that the Evansville SPHL team will be named the Evansville Thunderbolts.

After much speculation and countless suggestions for potential team names, the fan vote selected Thunderbolts from the final five names that were made available to choose from.
The name Thunderbolts has historical significance to the City of Evansville.  During World War II, Evansville manufactured the Thunderbolt airplane that was used during the war.  The name will be shared with Evansville’s NA3HL hockey team that will start its second season this fall.
I had an opportunity to catch up with an owner from Total Package Hockey (NA3HL Evansville owner) about sharing the team name.

Coach Jeff Pyle took a few moments to talk about today’s announcement and Michael Hall getting choked up when talking about him during the press conference.
