The Sin Bin

Best of Into the Sin Bin With Bob Chase and Mike Emrick

November 25, 2015

Welcome to the Best of Into the Sin Bin! In this edition, we will revisit two interviews with a pair of broadcasting legends in the sport of hockey.
Chase is calling his 63rd season of Fort Wayne Komets hockey on WOWO radio in Fort Wayne.
Leading off is the legendary voice of the Fort Wayne Komets, Bob Chase.
Chase describes growing up as a child of the Great Depression, his service to our country in World War II, his storied radio career outside the Komets hockey booth, some of the momentous moments in Komets history and the purpose radio serves in today’s culture.
Some of the content for this interview was gained through the book “Live from Radio Rinkside,” by Bob Chase as told to Blake Sebring.
Mike Emrick is the lead announcer for the NHL on NBC.
Following Bob is the legendary voice of the NHL on NBC, Mike “Doc” Emrick. Doc is working his 43rd season behind the mic and has called over 4,000 professional games, including 14 Stanley Cup Finals and 10 NHL All-Star Games.
I spoke with him about the experience of calling the Kraft Hockeyville USA game in Johnstown, PA and how markets like Johnstown are vital to the health of minor pro hockey. We also talk about how hockey has affected him on a personal and professional level, what all the awards mean and who he would have on his Mount Rushmore of hockey.
Real Sports on HBO did a profile on Mike, view it, here:
