Former Wichita Thunder goalie Tim Boron has announced his retirement from professional hockey.
Boron played for six different teams over the course of his nine-year career; that included stops in the Central Hockey League and ECHL with the Wichita Thunder; Rapid City Rush; Stockton Thunder; Colorado Eagles; Mississippi Riverkings and Las Vegas Wranglers. He briefly played overseas in France, before returning during the 2013-14 season to play for the Rapid City Rush.
Late last season, Boron received his first call-up to the Rochester Americans of the American Hockey League, but did not see any game action.
“No hiding behind it, I’m 32 years old now so I am definitely getting to the age where it is the twilight of my career,” Boron said.
Boron said he had a really good opportunity come up for the next chapter after hockey and felt like the time was right to hang up the skates. He said the opportunity allowed him to stay in the game, something he wanted to do.

Boron played his college hockey at Saint Cloud State in Minnesota from 2003-06. From there, he joined the Colorado Eagles during the 2006-07 season, where he played in 10 playoff games and sported a 1.95 goals against average enroute to the Eagles winning the CHL championship.
After stops in Las Vegas, Stockton, Wichita and Mississippi, plus a season-ending hip surgery, Boron found a home with head coach Joe Ferras and the Rapid City Rush. It would be there that Boron had his best years as a professional, going 83-37-7 with a 2.58 goals against average and .915 save percentage.
“There’s a lot of great memories there and I met a lot of great people,” Boron said.
It is this writer’s opinion that Boron’s number 31 should be the next number retired in the rafters of the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center.
Boron finishes his career with a 141-94-19 record.
