Tackling Life – Tahir Whitehead (re-broadcast)

August 13, 2020

Originally broadcast in June 2019, this episode highlights the inspirational story of NFL linebacker, Tahir Whitehead. As he entered his eighth year in the NFL, Tahir joined us to discuss the obstacles he’d overcome to become the person he is today.

Growing up in Newark, New Jersey, Tahir was determined not to let his surroundings define him. Motivated and driven, he realised that with the right opportunity he could become the first person in his family to go to college. Attending Temple University, Tahir worked hard to ensure he didn’t become another statistic, tackling important lessons on and off the field.

An Oakland Raiders player when this episode originally aired, Tahir has always been focused on giving back, and was chosen as the team’s Walter Payton Man of the Year Nominee for his contributions to the community of Oakland in 2019. Alongside this, he’s delivered toys to local hospitals, hosted a 5k to support homeless veterans, and hosted a free youth football camp for five years in his home town, just to name a few.

Now playing for the Carolina Panthers, Tahir is an example of how you can achieve greatness through hard work and determination.
