Turk Pipkin’s Nobelity Project and “Building Hope†- Feb 28,2013
Regardless of all of the problems in this world, there are the rare few people who equate to modern day saints. These are people who begin with an act of kindness then take it to the next level. They not only dream about making a change but make it happen. What if your goals and aspirations led you on a mission that not only changed your life, but positively impacted the lives of people in an entire village as well as generations to come? Such is the case with writer and filmmaker, Turk Pipkin who has documented his beautiful experience in the award-winning film (and companion book) called, Building Hope, The Story of Mahiga Hope High School and the Nobelity Project. The Nobelity Project is a nonprofit organization that works with Nobel laureates and other leaders to advocate basic rights for children across the globe. Founded by Turk and Christy Pipkin in 2006, while producing the film Nobelity, the organization's mission is to develop schools in Kenya. The Nobelity Project's Kenya School Fund continues to build classrooms, water systems, libraries and computer labs at schools across rural Kenya. Mahiga is where the Nobelity Project began in 2005. After the initial installation of a small rainwater collection system and a secured computer lab, Turk returned to Kenya in 2008 to visit Mahiga. The hard work had indeed paid off! Water borne illness was down and school attendance was up! It was clear this community was ready to support their children by working for a better future. However, with no secondary school within walking distance, and no resources to send their children to a distant boarding school, most of these kids were facing the end of their schooling at the end of the 8th grade. Enter the Nobelity project! Tune in to this segment of The Organic View Radio Show, as host, June Stoyer is joined by Turk Pipkin as he discusses how a small group of people worked together to changes the lives of an entire community!Stay tuned!
