Eighteen more Welds would go on to attend Harvard, where two buildings are named for the family. General Stephen Minot Weld Jr. fought with distinction in the Civil War. Weld's mother, Mary Nichols Weld was a descendant of William Floyd, one of the signers of the Declaration of Independence.
