October 03, 2018

Jocko Willink is a retired US Navy SEAL and the author of several books. His list of inspiring books includes Extreme Ownership: How U.S. Navy Seals Lead and Win and Discipline Equals Freedom: Field Manual.  Jocko Willink preaches the value of extreme accountability.
He has always been a responsible and disciplined person. But he learned most of his methods for holding himself extremely accountable while leading SEAL Team Three’s Task Unit Bruiser in the Battle of Ramadi in Iraq. The Battle of Ramadi involved fearsome close quarters fighting. The responsibility involved in leading a SEAL Team in this environment was immense.

Jocko Willink – extreme accountability will change your life.

In all of Jocko’s writings and podcast episodes he encourages us to hold ourselves accountable for literally everything that happens in our life. Whether we initially seem to be at fault for something or not, there is always a host of things that we could have don’t differently. We can always do better.

Taking Full Responsibility Gives Us Power

Holding ourselves accountable means taking full responsibility. Taking responsibility for what happens in our lives gives us power; power in our own lives and power over how we conduct ourselves.

This means taking responsibility for our own emotions, thoughts, words, and actions in the lead up to an event. And for our emotions, thoughts, words, and actions during and after an event. There is always something different we could have done. There are always ways in which we can learn and therefore improve in the future.
