The Dating Show June 2014 - Part Two
In this edition of the Dating Show, we look at the world’s biggest football tournament, the World Cup, and we see how it can affect your dating life, and why it may actually be the best time for dating.
To read the full transcript, read below.
R: Football’s coming home Eliza! I’m so excited, it’s the World Cup!
E: I know… I just don’t get it. I don’t get why people get so excited about it all. It doesn’t make sense.
R: I’ve got my World Cup wallchart here.
E: I can see, what are you doing?
R: I’ll fill it in all through the tournament. I’ve got to know who’s playing when.
E: That’s what we used to do when we were kids, with sticker albums. Are you seriously going to pin that on your wall?
R: I am, I’ve been out on the streets, talking to people in London.
P1: England, Germany, Brazil, Argentina.
P2: It will be Brazil.
M: So you reckon Brazil will win?
P2: I think so, yes.
M: Because they’re the home team?
P2: They’re stronger.
P3: Probably Brazil.
M: You reckon Brazil. Why’s that?
P3: They’re used to the climate, they’ve got a good team.
P4: Anyone but England!
M: Anyone but England?
P4: Yeah!
P5: England, I hope.
M: Yeah. Realistically though?
P5: They must win. They must have a good start. Italy is a strong team but this is 2014, let’s forget about what happened in the past. This time round, we must beat them.
M: Come on England!
P6: I think Brazil will win it.
M: You reckon Brazil, why?
P6: Because of their home support and they’ve got the talent as well, so there’s no reason why they shouldn’t.
M: Yeah.
P7: I think it’ll be Germany and Spain.
M: You reckon Germany and Spain? What about Brazil? They’ve got the support.
P7: No!
R: So there you go, everyone’s getting really excited and I’ve been looking at some stats. The World Cup trophy is made of 18-carat gold and weighs 6 kilograms. And also in the 1930 World Cup, the final was contested between Argentina and Uruguay. Now both sides refused to play with one ball.
E: -yawns- I’m sorry.
R: They refused to play with one ball, and they had to agree to play one half with one ball made in Argentina, and the other half with a ball made in Uruguay.
E: I’m so sorry that I just can’t get excited about this at all. The only way that it’s interesting to me is that I get to see 22 or 23 boys in shorts running around and they’ve also got fit bodies. Other than that, what is the point? Honestly…
R: OK…
E: I mean, they’re really silly really. Kicking the ball around this whole big pitch and there’s one tiny little ball with all these men running after it, it just seems stupid.
-laughter-
R: OK, we’ll agree to disagree. You don’t like it, I love it. It’s interesting, this is why we’re talking about this today. Obviously, with OlderDatingOnline.com, we’ve been talking to them and they’ve seen a big, big increase in members. I think that’s because…
E: …they’re like me I guess.
R: Yeah, they want something else to do.
E: Rather than watch the footy. I can totally appreciate that. It does make sense.
R: Do you think it’s a case of when you join these dating sites that you should say “yes, I’m into football” or “no, I’m not into football”?
E: That’s quite interesting because football is actually a massive thing, it’s almost like you often sign which political party you affiliate with, and actually football is massive so if you are a guy and you are really keen on football and you don’t want your woman to be talking to you while Liverpool’s playing then absolutely you should tick a box saying “I’m a football nutcase.”
R: I don’t think Liverpool are in the World Cup.
E: You know I don’t know about this stuff!
-laughter-
R: With football, and other topics as well, you’ve really got to be honest on your profile and say what you want basically because if you pretend you like football and you don’t, you could end up with somebody who loves football and it’s never going to work.
E: Often women actually do that, that’s difficult sometimes when women do choose to try and please men, and please don’t!
