The Dating Show April 2014 - Part One

April 01, 2014

We’ve revamped the Dating Show. Instead of doing a monthly podcast, we’ll be releasing a number of shorter podcasts throughout the month focusing on one topic at a time. In the first Dating Show of April, we’ll be looking at what jewellery you should wear when you go on a date.

Here’s a transcript of the podcast.

R: Hello. How are you?

E: All good thank you.

R: Do you remember on the last edition of the Dating Show we had Bill Clinton?

E: Of course I remember.

R: He’s sent you another message.

E: -gasps-

R: Here we go.

B: If you look around the world today, this independent world, it’s been very good to some of us and it’s been pretty rough on others. And it’s been pretty rough on you for the last few years.

R: There you go.

E: It’s been rough on me?!

R: -laughter-

E: -awkward laughter-

R: You’ve had a rough life that’s what he’s saying.

E: I’ve had a rough week, not a rough life. Crikey! What are you saying about my looks?

R: -laughter- OK… Now we’re going to talk about jewellery.

E: Diamonds…

R: Now the producers have asked us to go weekly, so instead of going monthly, The Dating Show is now going to go out every single week.

E: Oooh!

R: We are popular.

E: Wow!

R: Anyway, this week we’re talking about jewellery.

E: OK…

R: Do you like jewellery?

E: Well I like diamonds. As long as it’s real, yeah.

R: Do you wear much?

E: I got up at 4 o’clock this morning, what do you expect?! No… But generally I do, I love my gold.

R: Right now Kirsty Manley, who’s a jewellery expert, joins me in the studio. Kirsty, let’s look at jewellery and accessories. When you’re dating, what would you recommend for a man.

K: For a man I’d definitely recommend a nice watch. A Swiss Movement if you can afford one. If not, you’ve got your fashion brands, your Hugo Boss, your Armani, they’re quite popular. If you were going to wear any other jewellery, it would need to be kept quite simple – a bracelet or a necklace. I’d have my necklace tucked in under my shirt. If you were going to wear an earring, it would have to be real diamond in your ear.

R: What about a medallion?

-laughter-

K: I’d definitely not wear a medallion or a dog tag on a date.

-laughter-

K: Or anything with too much bling in it, or one of those Tresor Paris bracelets that are quite popular with the younger men now with the crystals on them. They’re quite blingy, I wouldn’t wear one of them either.

R: And women?

K: Personally, I’d wear one pair of earrings or a small pair of hoops. Not a large pair of hoops. I’d wear a bracelet, a watch and a necklace. They would all be the same matching metal, so I wouldn’t wear gold and silver together. However, I would wear gold and white gold together because they’re the same colour but they would all be again quite simple, nothing too blingy. Nothing too out there… You don’t want to make too much of a statement on the first date.

R: How important is it not to mix your metals?

K: It’s not that important, it’s more me. Personally, I don’t like to see different coloured metals mixed, but some do wear them and it’s done tastefully it can be OK, but I personally like to stick to the same sort of metals so either gold or silver.

R: Is there any other tips you can give us?

K: Make sure you’re jewellery’s clean. Believe it or not, the amount of watches and jewellery that we take in that’s either got dead skin on the back of a watch or hand cream under the setting of a ring. Just make sure you clean your jewellery before you go on a date because the grease from your hands can go on your jewellery. If you wear a watch every day, you will get dead skin on it. Just make sure your jewellery is clean before you go on a date. You don’t want to smell nice and have dirty jewellery.

R: Do you think men are paying more attention to jewellery?

K: Definitely, from what I can see. Especially watches – people have started wearing watches in what I’ve come across. They’ve also started wearing the fashion jewellery more, like the Armani jewellery, the DKNY jewellery or the Tresor Paris bracelets, which are the crystal bracelets which have also been seen on celebrities like Tinie Tempah. They’re a little bit blingy for a first date so that’s why I wouldn’t wear them on a first date. They definitely are getting more popular among men.

R: OK, that was Kirsty Manley. While that was playing out, you threw this bit of paper at me.

E: -laughter-

R: What did you say?

E: Oh no!

R: Come on, tell us what you said!

E: – sighs- Well, I said “I certainly like my men to buy me jewellery.”

R: -laughter- My men?!

E: I like my men buying me jewellery.

R: How many men have you got?

-laughter-
