Ep 90: To College Seniors in the Age of Covid-19, with Love, Special Guest Host Neil Foote

April 09, 2020

To add insult to injury, college grads not only have their commencement ceremonies in limbo or delayed until the fall, but every senior year event has been cancelled.  Not only do they face being locked down at home or in their small apartments, that awesome job market these GenZers were told to look forward to is now up in smoke.  Now, they are entering a very crowded job market, with veterans and other professionals freshly unemployed because of the financial fallout from the slowdown.

Things look bleak...but do they really?

I sit down in a history-making conversation with my long-time friend, fellow NABJer, fellow university faculty member and former employee Neil Foote, who is the national president for National Black Public Relations Society (NBPRS) and lecturer at the Mayborn School of Journalism at the University of North Texas. He is also President of Foote Communications who has supported well-known clients like Reach Media, owned by To Joyner.

This conversation is being shared with both of our classes, and we wanted to let you in on it.

Neil teaches Media Entrepreneurship and I teach Writing & Editing for Strategic Communications.  What makes our conversation history-making?  It will be the first time I hand over the mic to my friend, and he will interview me.  This has never happened on the show, but I wouldn't think of doing this with anyone but Neil, who was my Vice President of Development and Strategy when I ran my agency back in the early 2000s.

You won't want to miss this rich exchange about what students can do to shift their mindsets to win despite looming obstacles in the job market.

If you have a college student at home, tell them to take a listen.

There is hope, and we will get through this.
