346: Guy & Ilan Ferdman | Using Fear As Your Guide

November 28, 2014

Changing your mindset leads to different results.

“Courage is just the willingness to take action in the face of fear.”-Ilan and Guy Ferdman

The Cheat Sheet:

  • Why asking for help is so hard, yet so rewarding.
  • How to shift a scarcity mindset.
  • Self-sabotage defined and explained.
  • What is kinesiology and is it just woo-woo crap?
  • How to get off the hamster wheel of your life.
  • And so much more…

When it comes to fear do you see it as a hindrance or as a guidepost? How do you respond to things you fear the most: do you face them head on or run for cover? The natural human response is to run for cover. But our guests for today’s show have devoted themselves to seeing fear as a guidepost and helping their students do the same.

Ilan and Guy Ferdman are two brothers who came to the US as young boys and found success in business through hard work and later on, taking action despite their fears. Join us as we talk about evaluating personal beliefs, finding courage to embrace fear and so much more on episode 346 of The Art of Charm.

More About This Show:

Ilan and Guy Ferdman moved to the US in 1989; Ilan was 8 and Guy was 5. They recall having used everything at home: TVs, couches, clothes, all of it. Though they didn’t necessarily think of themselves as poor, they knew they weren’t rich. No matter their financial status, their parents instilled the values of hard work and family reliance in them.

And it worked well for both of them. Initially both Ilan and Guy found tremendous success in their careers; Ilan in the commercial real estate banking world and Guy in the online marketing world. But wanting more they branched out to create SatoriPrime together. SatoriPrime is an online business coaching program for entrepreneurs offering a variety of profitable and powerful business strategies.

In today’s episode our focus is about what they did for themselves to move past plateaus in their lives and how they’ve translated that into actionable offerings for their students (and for the listeners of this show). First and foremost they both readily admit to having had to work past the independence value they grew up with. In other words, they had to learn how to ask and receive help. But when they did, they saw the biggest expansion (and profits) in their business they had ever experienced.

Ilan and Guy recommend if you’re in that same position that you remember this fact: your skill set will only get you so far. And if your skill set would give you exponential growth then you’d already have it. Since you don’t have it, your skill set will not provide it for you. So you have to allow yourself to receive help and those results will show up after you do.

Along that same line is the topic of fear. Asking for help is a scary prospect, and so is receiving it! But Ilan and Guy have found that those areas you are most fearful of will also provide you with the most valuable and prosperous lessons.

And you can learn one of those lessons by following their suggestion. Simply write down 5 things you’re afraid to do and then do them, then you’ll see this lesson for yourself firsthand. Ilan says after you do the first thing on your list you’ll see the value in facing your fears, and by the time you get to number 5 on your list you won’t even recognize yourself. You’ll be an entirely different person.

What makes fear and the specific lesson above so powerful is the distinction between responsibility and blame. When you take responsibility for something (like facing your fears) you make yourself the reason something happens or doesn’t happen. You become the source of power for the results in your life, rather than playing the blame game and simply pointing fingers everywhere else.

Responsibility means understanding you are at the source of your life, no one and nothing else is or ever will be. Blaming means anything and anyone are the reason you don’t have what you want. Out of blame or responsibility there’s only one where you are empowered: responsibility. When you take responsibility you can also shift your perspective on any situation and understand the world is happening FOR you, not to you. And that is a momentous shift that leads to real, powerful change and tangible results.

Ilan, Guy and I go into greater detail on all of these topics and more on today’s show. They were fantastic guests and it was a pleasure to have them here. Be sure to listen in and get all the golden nuggets! Thank you for being here and we’ll see you next time.
