That Millwall Podcast
Into the Lions' Den with John Sitton
John had a career spanning four clubs, Chelsea, Millwall, Gillingham and Leyton Orient from 1976 -1991. I have played in all four divisions of English professional football.
I have coached from 1988-1997 and worked as a Coach Educator from 1990 to 1997. During this period I also worked as an Academy Coach, Youth Team Coach, First Team Coach and Co Manager at Leyton Orient Football Club.
When you’ve had to scrap, battle, kick bollocks and bite just to get by and survive you just hope to have more good memories than bad ones. Unfortunately it’s part of our make up as human beings that the not so good memories get highlighted. All my good work that at the time was over a period of twenty two years was washed away in a fifty three minute documentary.
I’ve even said it to my wife it’s ironic, if that’s the right word, that the thousand times I may have been polite, courteous, cooperative, funny and good company gets washed away by a rant or me complaining or standing my ground. I suppose even if the things you say have substance, it’s down to how you word things, but I believe political correctness is just another way to keep you down.
Not self-pity, just a fact. By and large it’s a fact I can just about live with.
The way I see it if you can’t go through life as a man and be yourself, what’s the point?
We highly recommend you buy Johns book
