When someone wrongs us, we naturally want to exact revenge or at least hold the relationship in a stalemate until feelings are restored. The unconditional love of God breaks this mold because while we were still God’s enemies, he didn’t wait for us to make the first move. His love compels us to love even the unlovable and treat them as God treats us: with unconditional love.
