Samsung has again this week shone a light over the sleeping competition, with the announcement of the Galaxy Gear smartphone, as well as the update to its Trigger Happy TV inspired Note 3.

This company has comprehensively proven, yet again, that while the slumbering monster that is Apple sleeps, life keeps on moving on.

The lesson to be learned here has everything to do with that European phone company, recently acquired by Microsoft. Yes, by all means make a cheaper phone, but people are interested in innovation. If the fundamental design of the phone has not changed since launch, then you are in fear of being left behind. Most people nowadays have the expectation of using a smartphone with a large screen.  An extra row of icons is evolutionary and not revolutionary and just won’t cut it any more.
